The face fabric of new X-Pac VX21 OE four-layer laminate is constructed with GRS-certified, 100% recycled regen Ocean made from discarded fishing nets strengthened by Dimension-Polyant’s patented X-Ply fiber reinforcement technology made with 100% post-consumer recycled PET. A lightweight taffeta backing, also made with 100% recycled post-consumer PET, provides enhanced stitch holding. As with all X-Pac materials, VX21 OE is made in Dimension-Polyant’s 100 percent carbon neutral plant.

“X-Pac has earned an industry reputation for long-lasting strength and durability so it’s critically important that every material that goes into the construction of our laminates passes this test – whether it be made from recycled materials or not,” said Taylor North, Head of Technical Fabrics, Dimension-Polyant US. “We have been waiting for just the right 100% recycled material that meets our durability standards and sustainability story to help us develop the next phase of our best-selling VX21 laminate and regen Ocean nylon met our demands.”

New X-Pac VX21 OE is the first four-layer laminate for packs and bags to launch with regen Ocean nylon, developed by sustainable textile solutions provider, Hyosung TNC. According to an independent 3rd party Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by Hyosung, the manufacture of regen Ocean reduces CO2 emissions by 73%, fossil resource use by 76%, and water consumption by 98% as compared to conventional nylon.

X-Pac VX21 OE joins other X-Pac fabrics carrying Dimension-Polyant’s cleenTec seal, which guarantees it is 100% climate neutral by including recycled or bio-based components with the added sustainable measure of having climate offsets directly applied. Working with internationally- respected ClimatePartner, Dimension-Polyant calculates the total environmental impact of each cleenTec fabric to offset its carbon footprint.

“We’ve had tremendous interest in the new laminate and the sustainable story that goes along with it,” said, North. We look forward to sharing news about a few forthcoming brand adoptions a bit later this year.”

X-Pac VX21 OE is currently available in black, and will soon be offered in white, artic grey, and sea green this fall. Dimension-Polyant will be presenting its new VX21 OE along with its broad portfolio of high-performance X-Pac laminates at Performance Days Munich, October 23-24, 2024. – Trust Only X-Pac

Hyosung Presents New Regen Certified Sustainable Textile Solutions at Functional Fabric Fair NYC https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/hyosung-presents-new-regen-certified-sustainable-textile-solutions-at-functional-fabric-fair-nyc/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 20:35:50 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=316736 Expanding its dedication to ongoing innovation and delivering sustainable solutions for a wide range of needs throughout the value chain, Hyosung will introduce a comprehensive range of certified sustainable materials at forthcoming New York City based shows this summer.

At Functional Fabric Fair NYC
Creating a more powerful sustainable story, Hyosung has expanded its offering of regen Bio Spandex, replacing nearly all the fiber’s raw materials previously made with petroleum-based resources with renewable resources to include new regen Bio, regen Bio+ and regen Bio Max Spandex.

Hyosung was the first company to commercialize at scale USDA and SGS-certified bio-based elastane partly made with renewable resources in 2022. Brand adoptions with the fiber include activewear from Pangaia that combines a bio-nylon with Hyosung regen Bio Spandex, and Icebreaker who has introduced a blend of regen Bio spandex with their signature merino wool. Others have combined regen Bio Spandex with luxurious silk, lyocell, and organic cotton.

As part of its corporate ESG commitment to achieving net zero by 2050 and supporting the wider textile industry to meet evolving sustainability goals, Hyosung has partnered with sustainable materials leader, Geno, to start construction at its plant in Vietnam to produce Bio BDO derived from sugarcane, commencing Q2 2026. Hyosung’s partnership with Geno establishes the world’s first fully integrated manufacturing site for bio-based elastane from renewable raw material to fiber. The project will fast track the production of Bio BDO with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons in the second half of 2026 – with the aim of expanding capacity up to a total of 200,000 tons/year to meet expected industry demands for bio.

We’re thrilled to announce our expanded regen Bio Spandex offering, which significantly decreases our reliance on fossil fuels and reduces carbon emissions, said Julia Nam, Hyosung US Senior Marketing Manager – Textiles. As a leading provider of sustainable textile solutions, we aim to deliver diverse textile options that cater to the varied needs of our mills, brands, and consumers and we are proud to accomplish this goal.”

While our regen Bio Spandex addresses the needs of those seeking bio-based materials, for brands and retailers more interested in recycled rather than bio-based materials, Hyosung will present fabrics and garments crafted with its multi-functional and certified 100% recycled regen Spandex, Nylon, and Polyester.

Highlighted will be its RCS-certified 100% recycled regen Spandex made from industrial reclaimed waste and GRS-certified 100% post-consumer recycled regen Ocean Nylon made from discarded fishing nets.

To meet consumer desire for sustainable apparel that offers comfort with performance benefits, Hyosung has uniquely added multi-function properties in the manufacture of its 100% recycled regen Polyester fibers. For instance, Hyosung’s regen Askin Polyester offers cool touch, UV protection and quick drying benefits. Its regen Xanadu is a mechanical stretch fiber made with a blend of recycled post-consumer PET and plant-based materials providing a performance fit.

Hyosung can be found at Functional Fabric Fair NYC, Javits Center, July 16-17, Booth 538.

Ambercycle and Hyosung TNC Join Forces to Scale Decarbonized, Circular Polyester https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/ambercycle-and-hyosung-tnc-join-forces-to-scale-decarbonized-circular-polyester/ Wed, 12 Jun 2024 15:50:21 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=314685 Hyosung TNC, one of the world’s leading sustainable textile solutions providers, has partnered with Ambercycle, a leading material science company, to become the first manufacturer in South Korea to introduce a textile-to-textile, circular polyester into supply chains.

The collaboration advances the partners’ shared vision of a circular textile ecosystem that repurposes end-of-life products into high-performing fibers for brands looking to curb their environmental impact.

The partnership will tap Hyosung’s 58 years of advanced fiber manufacturing capabilities and nearly two decades of experience producing high-quality, sustainable textiles to support the integration of Ambercycle’s circular polyester material, cycora, into brand supply chains.

“Our collaboration with Ambercycle is another important step we are taking to help our customers meet their sustainability goals and scale solutions that both present and future generations can enjoy, said Chi Hyung Kim, CEO, Hyosung TNC.We’re impressed with cycora for its quality but also for its potential to divert tons of textile waste from landfills and incinerators and reduce the extraction of raw materials used in the production of virgin polyester.”

Based in Los Angeles, Ambercycle is rapidly scaling cycora, a regenerated polyester chip that meets the spinnability standards of virgin materials and outperforms other recycled materials, according to testing by the European Center for Innovative Textiles (CETI), a leading research institute. Ambercycle’s trailblazing molecular regeneration technology will add to a growing portfolio of circular solutions manufactured by Hyosung TNC, the company behind regen, a global premier recycled fiber brand.

Developed at its research and development center, Hyosung was the world’s first company to develop regen nylon from discarded fishing nets in 2007 and achieved another significant milestone by becoming the first company to globally receive the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification for its recycled regen polyester. The company was also the first to introduce RCS-certified 100% recycled regen spandex in 2020, and USDA, SGS-certified bio-based spandex made from partly renewable resources in 2021.

“The fashion industry is searching for accessible, high-quality circular solutions. This partnership is a testament to that demand and an important step to ramp up the production of cycora and make it easier for brands to source regenerated materials for their fashion lines. We’re closely aligned with Hyosung on both our high-quality standards and our commitment to circularity, so we are thrilled to have them as a partner in our commercialization journey, says Shay Sethi, CEO of Ambercycle.

Hyosung TNC Partners with Geno in Development of Certified regen Bio Spandex https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/hyosung-tnc-partners-with-geno-in-development-of-certified-regen-bio-spandex/ Wed, 01 May 2024 17:25:18 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=311771 As part of its corporate ESG commitment to achieving net zero by 2050 and supporting the wider textile industry to meet evolving sustainability goals, Hyosung TNC, the world’s largest manufacturer of spandex, has partnered with sustainable materials leader, Geno, to start construction at its plant in Vietnam of facilities to produce Bio BDO derived from sugarcane, commencing Q2 2026.

BDO is the technical name for butanediol, a chemical traditionally made from fossil fuels and a major ingredient in the manufacture of spandex. Through proven plant-based Geno BDO technology, which ferments sugars derived from sugarcane to replace the fossil raw materials such as coal, Hyosung can build upon the successful launch of its extensive range of certified regen BIO Spandex products already adopted by leading global activewear brands.

Hyosung’s partnership with Geno establishes the world’s first fully integrated manufacturing site for bio-based spandex from renewable raw material to fiber. The project will fast track the production of BIO BDO with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons in the second half of 2026 – with the aim of expanding capacity up to a total of 200,000 tons/year to meet expected industry demands of Bio-based spandex.

“Through this vertical integration from raw material to yarn for regen Bio Spandex, our goal is to increase production efficiency, provide faster response to our customer needs, and integrate value chains to help minimize carbon footprint,” said Sora Yoo, Hyosung Chief Marketing Officer, Textiles. “As a total sustainable textile solutions provider, we are excited about our close collaboration with Geno on our Bio BDO project to pass along significant carbon footprint reductions across the value chain so we can all make an impact towards a better future.”

San Diego, CA-based Geno is a biotechnology leader of Materials Transition, accelerating the world’s transformation to sustainable materials by replacing fossil fuel resources with plants.  Its technology enables greater supply chain resilience, performance, and sustainability impact for many of the world’s largest brands and suppliers. For more than two decades, Geno has been scaling technology to enable the production of sustainable materials derived from plant- or waste-based feedstocks instead of fossil fuels. It has commercialized sustainable alternatives to commonly used ingredients and materials across several industries to include beauty, apparel, automotive and homecare including lululemon, Unilever, Kao, and L’Oréal.

“Geno’s partnership with Hyosung marks a major step forward to accelerate our mission to create supply chains that are responsibly sourced, traceable, and transparent, said John Gugel, president of Geno. When our integration is operational, Geno BDO will be driving over five percent of the global market for BDO, following a rapid adoption curve much like we have seen in electric cars and renewables. Hyosung will lead this materials transition by producing more traceable, transparent, and responsibly sourced spandex.”

According to Yoo, there are no differences in the physical properties of regen Bio Spandex compared to spandex made with fossil fuels.  Hyosung anticipates up to 80 percent reduction for its regen Bio Spandex products produced in its Vietnam plant by 2026. This number is based on industry data and internal metrics. After the product launch, the company will provide a comprehensive third-party LCA incorporating full data.

Understanding the importance of third-party certification, Hyosung has received ISCC+ international certification, a global sustainability and carbon certification system in 2023 on top of SGS certification, verifying it manufactured BIO-spandex partly using raw materials to replace petroleum-based ingredients.

Hyosung’s investment of $1 billion in its future Bio BDO business underlines its commitment to building ‘a better tomorrow’. The company will continue to supply customers with its existing range of regen BioSpandex and help them transition to the new product in 2026.

At Functional Fabric Fair Portland, April 17 -18 Booth 1608

From nature to performance fiber
Creating a more powerful sustainable story, Hyosung has expanded its offering of regen Bio-Based Spandex, replacing nearly all the fiber’s raw materials previously made with petroleum-based resources with 100% renewable resources. The company recently received an independent 3rd party LCA for its expanded offering of regen Bio-Based Spandex.

Hyosung was the first company to commercially introduce USDA and SGS-certified regen Bio-Based Elastane made with 30% renewable resources in 2021, which has been successfully adopted by leading global brands. According to an independent 3rd party LCA, the manufacture of 1kg regen Bio-Based spandex reduces its carbon footprint by 20% as compared to the production 1kg of conventional spandex.

Ocean Protection Initiative
At Performance Days and Functional Fabric Fair, Hyosung will also present the latest innovations with its GRS-certified, 100% post-consumer recycled regen Ocean Nylon made from discarded fishing nets. Third party LCA data shows that the manufacture of 1 kg regen ocean post-consumer recycled nylon made with discarded fishing nets reduces CO2 emissions by 73%, fossil resource use by 76%, and water consumption by 98% compared to the manufacture of 1 kg of conventional nylon. Under its proprietary recycling process, Hyosung recently increased production and re-launched regen Ocean Nylon in early 2023, which has led to major outdoor brand adoptions that are launching new products made with the material this spring.

Reuse. Recycle. Regen.
To meet consumer desire for sustainable apparel that offers comfort with performance benefits, Hyosung has uniquely added multi-function properties in the manufacture of its certified 100% recycled Spandex, Nylon and Polyester fibers. Hyosung Presents New FW 25/26 Textile Trends https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/hyosung-presents-new-fw-25-26-textile-trends/ Thu, 22 Feb 2024 19:52:21 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=306424 To continually deliver creative innovation and sustainable textile solutions across the entire value chain, Hyosung’s  Fashion Design Center (FDC), an interactive fashion studio that spans the U.S., Europe, and Asia surveying progressive brands and retailers researching consumer insights, has released its forecasted FW 25/26 Textile Trend report, which provides a vision of the key materials major apparel brands will be incorporating into their collections next year.

The global climate change and cost of living crisis is a key influence in FDC’s FW 25/26 Textile Trend report. It’s supported by the back to nature movement where consumers are doing what they can to protect the earth by choosing apparel made with natural/bio-based textiles.

According to Gary Oh, Team/General Manager, Hyosung FDC, consumers are seeking long-lasting, multi-function apparel made with planet-friendly materials to reduce harmful carbon emissions, and thermally-regulated products to help lower home energy expenses.

With this insight in mind, FDC predicts the three following themes for apparel made with Hyosung’s broad range of Creora and certified sustainable regen brands of spandex, performance nylon and polyester yarns.

  • Minimal for Future: Consumers will be more mindful of choosing seasonless, genderless and ageless apparel that can be used for multiple purposes; thermal-regulating pieces for saving energy; and apparel made with blends of natural fibers blended with bio-based synthetics, which are detailed in the theme’s three sub-trends – All-Round Basics, Thermal Resilience, and Nature Power.
  • Well-Being Theory: Soft surroundings and comfort-feeling that helps to enhance wellness is in the spotlight for the FW 25/26 season. Apparel with barely-there feel along with refined textures will be popular as reflected in the theme’s Body-Hugging Softness, Comfy Stretch, and Reimagined Ribs sub-trends.
  • Conscious Preparation: Consumers continue to enjoy time in nature for all the lovely benefits it provides. Thus, they need earth-friendly, multi-functional apparel that can withstand whatever shifting weather conditions Mother Nature decides to bring on. Sub-trends within this theme include The Sweat Life, Mindful Explorer, and Lightweight Adventure.

More detailed information on FDC’s FW 25/26 Textile Trends will be presented in a weekly Trend Byte series featured on the Hyosung Performance Textiles Creativity Inspired blog beginning February 22, 2024.

Hyosung Introduces Sustainable Solutions At Outdoor Retailer Online https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/hyosung-introduces-sustainable-solutions-at-outdoor-retailer-online/ Mon, 20 Jul 2020 15:55:02 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=195212

July 20, 2020 – As lives have been radically disrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic, consumers are seeking comfort and security from their daily surroundings that range from the home where we are living in and working from, to the clothes we wear.

This global condition has accelerated the desire for comfortable, versatile, and sustainable apparel that can be worn for multiple uses, that is made to last, and is in sync with their individual style.

Materials play a key role in the comfort, performance and sustainable features consumers crave in these crossover garments. To fill this need, the fiber giant Hyosung has expanded its 100% recycled multi-function fiber offering, which it will present at Outdoor Retailer Online show July 21-23, 2020.

“At Hyosung, our objective is to reduce waste,” said Mike Simko, Hyosung Global Marketing Director.

“Whether it’s our spandex or nylon or polyester, it’s all made with 100% reclaimed waste so that we’re maximizing the positive impact.”

In addition to Hyosung’s new  GRS 100% recycled creora® regen spandex collection, the company will highlight the following new recycled polyester and nylon yarns (among others) with added performance features during Outdoor Retailer Online.

Keep Cool with Comfort

A balance between comfort and function – Hyosung’s 100% recycled regen askin polyester with cooling technology offers cool touch, UV protection, and rapid drying features created for those who like to play hard in the sun.

For a Better Future

With every ton of 100% reclaimed waste Hyosung uses to produce its GRS certified creora® regen spandex, consumers will be happy to know it is saving approximately 2 tons of non-renewable raw material being extracted from the earth.

Recycled. Robust. Resilient.

Hyosung’s Mipan® regen robic is the first GRS certified recycled high-tenacity nylon made from 100% reclaimed waste developed for eco-conscious enthusiasts who rely on their gear wherever the adventure takes them.

Staying Connected

Due to the coronavirus, many trade shows around the world have pivoted from live to digital events. To stay better connected with its customers, Hyosung has increased its digital marketing initiatives to participate in virtual trade shows and events such as Outdoor Retailer Online and the recent Kingpins24 and Performance Days online shows. The company is also developing new Hyosung Performance Textiles social platforms to include a forthcoming blog along with LinkedIn, Instagram and, YouTube pages, which will go live in August 2020. Hyosung Introduces New Creora 3D Max https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/hyosung-introduces-new-creora-3d-max/ Wed, 24 Jun 2020 11:18:47 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=192673 June 23, 2020– Denim in its many styles and finishes is the ‘go-to’ apparel choice for consumers around the world, and all-day comfort without sacrificing lasting shape is in demand. To provide denim-lovers with jeans they want to live in, Hyosung has developed new creora® 3D Max spandex, which it will debut at the Kingpins24 virtual denim event taking place online June 23-24, 2020.

Hyosung introduced 3D Max spandex to give denim products dual performance features such ultra-stretch and excellent recovery that last over time. Jeans made with 3D Max offer a natural look and feel and allow for add-on details such as eco-friendly finishes and laser treatments.

“In denim, it has traditionally been difficult to get super stretch with low growth or bagging,” said Mike Simko, Hyosung’s Global Marketing Director -Textiles.  “The industry wants more than 50% stretch, but they want it with less than 5% growth. While there is currently a way to achieve these targets, it can be expensive and constraining, therefore mills and brands have been asking Hyosung for a better solution. We are happy our creora® 3D Max has filled this need.”

At Kingping24, Simko joins Tim Huesemann, director and shareholder of Panther Denim & Tat Fung, in a moderated discussion on the importance of collaborative developments and how the denim industry can benefit by all working together. Simko will also share more information about creora® 3D Max spandex along with Hyosung’s GRS certified creora® regen spandex made from 100% reclaimed waste, and forthcoming creora® bio-based spandex. The pre-recorded interview will go live on Wednesday, June 24 in the 1:00PM to 2:00PM ET timeslot and can be viewed by visiting kingpinsshow.com.

Hyosung Converts Creora Spandex Production To Aid Global Face Mask Production https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/hyosung-converts-creora-spandex-production-to-aid-global-face-mask-production/ Fri, 29 May 2020 17:33:32 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=190051 Seoul, South Korea – Due to the overwhelming face mask demand for those on the front lines combating COVID-19, and the growing number who need them for personal protection, Hyosung, the world’s largest producer of spandex, has repurposed its facilities to increase the supply of creora® spandex, a key ingredient in the manufacture of what has become the essential accessory for everyone today.

Spandex is primarily used for making the ear loops and head straps to make the mask fit properly and comfortably on the face. While the majority of face mask production is in China, a growing number of consumer apparel and accessory manufacturers around the world are switching gears to make face masks to help with the PPE shortage. This surge in production has made face mask component supplies, such as ear loops, scarce.

“Hyosung has converted creora® spandex yarn production to increase supply to the global mask market by 20 times,” said Mike Simko, Hyosung Global Marketing Director – Textiles. “This production can make earloops for several billion face masks per month, which will be a significant help to our customers’ production needs. We’ve been fortunate to keep our spandex production operating in all of our international plants to serve local and global communities.”

Face mask production is predicted to increase as many nations around the world are encouraging people to wear face masks in places where social distancing measures are difficult.

During the course of the COVID-19 crisis, Hyosung has donated over $420,000 along with medical supplies to medical workers caring for COVID-19 patients in Daegu, hit hardest by the virus in Korea, and its adjacent North Gyeongsang Province.
