The three athletes will play a critical role in the brand’s product testing process, putting more than 250 hours of in-field testing across Norrøna’s range of gear. Additionally, Métailler will join other Norrøna ambassadors for the Total Norrøna Mountain Bike Experience at Canvas Telemark in May, which welcomes Norrøna fans to ride in paradise alongside brand ambassadors.

“We are thrilled to welcome Aime, Megan and Rémy to the Norrøna ambassador team. Each athlete brings a unique perspective to the brand and to their sports, and we look forward to collaborating on future projects,” said Jørgen Jørgensen, leader and fourth-generation owner of Norrøna. “We are especially excited that all three ambassadors will represent Norrøna in key areas of North America, as we continue to expand our presence there.”

Amie Engerbretson (@amieski) joins Norrøna’s ambassador team from Lake Tahoe, California, where she effortlessly turned her passion of skiing into a thriving career. The final addition to the Norrøna ambassador team is mountain biking athlete Rémy Métailler (@remymetailler). Originally from the Southeast of France, Métailler now calls Squamish, British Columbia, home, where he hikes, skis, surfs and of course, mountain bikes. Manchester, Vt. (February 27, 2024) —Dominic Lucero, angler, outdoor educator, and founder of Colorado Treks, has been recognized by outdoor retailer Orvis with its Breaking Barriers Award for 2024.

“Orvis created the Breaking Barriers Award in 2015 to recognize the individuals or organizations going above and beyond to bring new communities into the outdoors through fly fishing and wingshooting,” said Orvis President Simon Perkins. “We are proud to celebrate Dominic and the work of Colorado Treks, which embodies the spirit and mission of this award.”

Based in Denver, Lucero founded Colorado Treks in 2016 to inspire life-changing confidence in indigenous and Latinx youth in Colorado through cultural experiences and outdoor education.

Lucero grew up an avid outdoors person thanks to family generational outdoor cultural practices passed on by his uncles and Grandfather. He understands the importance and need for that kind of mentorship and accessibility for under invested communities. Through partnerships with public schools in the Denver Metro Area, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and others, Colorado Treks has helped open the outdoors to more than 1,000 youth in the greater Denver area.

“I’m honored to receive this award from Orvis and excited to have their support to help introduce more kids to what I call the medicine of the mountains,” said Lucero. “Community and connection to nature and culture have the power to heal individuals and change the world.”

Lucero joins previous Breaking Barriers Awards winners, including Durrell Smith, founder of the Minority Outdoor Alliance, Tracy Nguyen-Chung of Brown Folks Fishing, and Jess Westbrook of The Mayfly Project.

Norrøna Ambassador Sets World Record for the Fastest Trek to the South Pole https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/norrona-ambassador-sets-world-record-for-the-fastest-trek-to-the-south-pole/ Thu, 22 Feb 2024 14:41:37 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=306298 Oslo (Feb. 21, 2024) — Norrøna ambassador and French polar explorer Vincent Colliard has set a new world record for the fastest solo and unsupported trek to the South Pole from Hercules Inlet. He covered 1140km in 22 days, 6 hours and 8 minutes, breaking the previous world record by almost two days.

“My goal was to explore my full potential with this expedition to the South Pole. I wanted to push myself to the edge, physically and mentally, where I’ve never been on my previous polar expeditions,” shares Colliard. “Now felt like the perfect time for this challenge given my experience and endurance, combined with the impending arrival of my newborn soon. Like all my expeditions, I hope to raise awareness of protecting our polar regions and inspire concrete conservation measures.”

Colliard began his “Pas ce soir, chérie!” expedition on Dec. 20, 2023, and reached the South Pole on Jan. 11, 2024. He remained determined to complete his trek, despite the snow and white out conditions for the first half of the journey. He was inspired by the previous speed record, held by his friend Christian Eide, who skied the route solo and unsupported in 24 days, 1 hour and 23 minutes, in 2011.

“I am constantly in awe of the accomplishments of our Norrøna ambassadors and am proud to have Vincent as part of the Norrøna family,” said Jørgen Jørgensen, Norrøna’s fourth generation leader and owner. “A key aspect for our brand is to support changemakers, and Vincent continues to go above and beyond with each of his expeditions.”

Colliard was raised in the Basque region of southwestern France and currently resides in Norway his family. His extensive career ranges from mountaineering in the Himalayas to partially skiing across Patagonia’s southern icecap unsupported, and more. In 2010, he joined his childhood hero, Børge Ousland, in sailing through the Northwest Passage, navigating it in just 25 days. Colliard and Ousland were shocked by the ice retreat during their journey and soon created The Ice Legacy Project, a series of expeditions across the worlds 20 largest ice caps to document, raise awareness and inspire conservation efforts for the melting glaciers and ice fields. The two are 11 years into their 15-year-long project and continue to advocate for the protection and conservation of the wilderness.

Colliard joined the Norrøna roster of ambassadors in 2019 and used the lyngen Gore-Tex Active Jacket, lyngen alpha90 Vest, lyngen Gore-Tex Packlite Overpants and lyngen down850 Knickers during his most recent expedition.

For more information on Colliard, visit his Norrøna ambassador page at www.norrona.com/en-GB/about-norrona/our-ambassadors/vincent-colliard.

Phantom Glide Launches Nordic Skiing Formula in North America, Europe; Expands Sales Team https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/phantom-glide-launches-nordic-skiing-formula-in-north-america-europe-expands-sales-team/ Tue, 23 Jan 2024 20:24:00 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=303712 Salt Lake City (Jan 23. 2024) — Phantom Glide, the permanent, single-application base treatment for skis and snowboards, has added a Nordic formula to its product lineup and bolstered its sales team with the addition of two new sales managers, Doug Sheehy and Pete Leazott. The new Phantom Glide Nordic is an environmentally conscious alternative to traditional ski waxes and provides the same eco-friendly performance as the original formula but is optimized to provide a universal glide solution for Nordic skiing, a discipline that is extremely reliant on glide. Sheehy and Leazott, along with Justin Greenbaum, the Rockies sales and tech rep who joined in September, will support the launch of Phantom Glide Nordic and continue the sales momentum of the original Phantom Glide.

“Phantom Glide Nordic is a natural evolution of Phantom Glide and incorporates all of the advantageous qualities of the original formula, while adding a performance edge at speeds that are common in human-powered Nordic skiing,” says Thomas Laakso, senior vice president at Phantom Glide. “Phantom Glide Nordic is formulated for non-gravity initiated starts and will continue to make a difference in a ski’s coefficient of gliding long after traditional waxes have worn off.”

Both Phantom Glide and Phantom Glide Nordic are made up of a patent-pending polymer technology that uses microscopic short-chain compounds to penetrate and diffuse into the unstructured sections of ski and snowboard bases. After just one application, Phantom Glide and Phantom Glide Nordic provide increased glide for the lifetime of the ski and possess no environmental harm or harm to humans. For maximum efficacy, it is recommended that customers take their skis and snowboards to an authorized Phantom Glide dealer with a UV cure station.

“With the launch of Phantom Glide Nordic and the strong momentum we’re seeing with Phantom Glide sales, we jumped at the opportunity to add two veteran sales managers to the team,” says Steve Kropf, senior vice president of sales at Phantom Glide. “Doug and Pete boast strong sales backgrounds and we’re confident in their ability to help us grow Phantom Glide sales right out of the gate.”

Doug Sheehy has sales experience in both business-to-business and retail sales, most recently as store manager of Christy Sports/Cottam’s Ski Shop in Taos, New Mexico. Primus Announces Fourth Year of “Service for a Reason” Program https://sgbonline.com/pressrelease/primus-announces-fourth-year-of-service-for-a-reason-program/ Tue, 23 Jan 2024 20:16:08 +0000 https://sgbonline.com/?post_type=pressrelease&p=303724 Louisville, Colo. (Jan. 23, 2024) — Primus, the Swedish cooking equipment brand, launches its Service for a Reason program, which encourages outdoor cooking enthusiasts to test their Primus stoves this February and March in preparation for the season ahead. Primus users can troubleshoot issues with their stoves and take advantage of Primus’ free part replacement policy for qualifying parts.

“We are always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment. Being able to replace a worn-out part instead of an entire stove is an opportunity to keep excess equipment out of landfills,” says Madelene Öhlin, head of brand and communication at Primus-Silva. “Over the past three years, this program has allowed us to keep hundreds of stoves in optimum working order.”

Primus stoves are painstakingly engineered to have accessible parts that can be easily serviced and repaired. To further help customers service their stoves, Primus has also created a library of videos to help keep stoves in optimum condition. The videos are available at primus.us/pages/primus-service-maintainence.

“At Primus, we prioritize designing Primus stoves to be serviceable so that we can ensure that our stoves can become lifelong companions,” says Öhlin. “Our goal is to make gear that can get handed down for generations.”

Primus’ Service for a Reason program will run from February 1 to March 31. To learn more or to initiate a warranty claim and receive their free replacement parts, customers in the United States can go the US Service Your Stove Page while customers in Canada can apply via this Canadian Service Your Stove Page.

DPS will be the exclusive North American distributor for KOHLA and will be offering the brand’s climbing skins, backpacks, and climbing skin accessories starting November of 2023.

“Kohla has been a dominant global climbing skin brand but has had very limited distribution in the US and Canada. With the brand’s premium technology and unwavering quality reputation, we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to grow KOHLA’s distribution and broaden the value that we offer to our dealers and customers,” says Thomas Laakso, senior vice president at DPS Skis and Phantom Glide. “Kohla’s climbing skins are best-in-class and align with our brand ethos and will be a perfect companion to the DPS lineup of touring skis.”

Kohla was founded in 1932 in Innsbruck, Austria by Max Kohla and is still a family run business. Kohla has always specialized in gear for mountain sports, with an emphasis on backcountry skiing and snowboarding, and is currently the world’s largest manufacturer of climbing skins. All of Kohla’s products are field tested near the brand’s headquarters in Austria’s Stubai Alps.

“Kohla has been a family-run Austrian mountaineering company since its start in 1932,” says Thomas Span, CEO of Ibex Sportartikel which runs Kohla. “Our heart and soul are in the mountains and we share with DPS a respect for those mountains as well as a passion for snow sports. It’s obvious to us that we have found in DPS Skis the best partner with which to expand our presence in the US and Canada.”
