Another Diversified Communications show is moving but will stay close to its longtime home in Austin, TX. The Running Event (TRE) is moving to San Antonio, TX, for the TRE 2025 in November 2025, and the change looks to be permanent.

The move comes after DivCom announced in June (see SGB Media’s coverage below) that it was rolling out its nascent Switchback Outdoor Show and Conference into a standalone event in Nashville, TN, in June 2025 instead of a co-located effort with TRE.

“After extensive research, TRE selected San Antonio as the ideal new location to support brands, partners, retailers, and the running industry as a whole,” the company wrote in a release. The move would also keep TRE in an “accessible location while helping ensure a fun, welcoming environment as well as affordability for brands and retailers.”

“Our team is thrilled to be moving to San Antonio in 2025,” said Christina Henderson, TRE event director. “We weighed many options in our search for a new home, and San Antonio was the clear choice. From the convention center and surrounding hotels to the city’s overall atmosphere and energy, San Antonio will welcome our TRE community with open arms.”

The company said TRE’s location change is due to the Austin Convention Center undergoing large-scale updates over the next several years.

“San Antonio emerged as a natural choice thanks to its robust travel infrastructure, general affordability and ideal size to preserve the intimate feel of the event,” TRE management noted. “The city is large enough to provide partners with necessary services yet small enough to maintain the community-based nature that makes TRE such a special trade show.”

The city of San Antonio is reportedly enthusiastic about the move as well.

“For one week, San Antonio will be the epicenter of the running world,” said San Antonio Sports President & CEO Jenny Carnes. “We’re thrilled that The Running Event will bring all things running to San Antonio, and we are honored to host them in the Alamo City. The running industry will get to experience unique trails throughout the city and the festive spirit of our downtown during the holidays. There’s no more beautiful time or better place to run.”

TRE 2024 will run from November 19-21 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, TX, the event’s last year in the city for the foreseeable future.

“Austin has been a wonderful host to TRE for the last many years, and we can’t wait to hold one more TRE in the city that has been fundamental to the growth of the event and industry,” said Henderson.

The last time TRE moved to a different city was in 2016, when it had a one-year run at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL, due to a scheduling conflict with the Austin venue. TRE returned to Austin the following year.
